Race 1
Preview: ARCTIC SKYLINE (1) showed pace and stayed on well to win last time. ON CUE (5) was up with the pace when third last time and receiving 3kg from Arctic Skyline and having a 4kg claimer aboard she could be a threat. COMING IN HOT (3) is the only colt in the race so carries 2kg more than his fellow maidens and has to reverse a 4,25 length beating by Bella Chica although the latter does not have a 2,5kg claimer aboard this time. TIME SILHOUETTE (7) is by Time Thief and is a half-sister to her Grade Fillies Mile-winning stabemate Gee For Go. VOLTRON (8) is by Listed-winning Jet Master stallion Lance out of a one-time winning Jay Peg mare over 1200m. SUPREME QUEST (6), by Querari out of a one-time winning Lecture mare, is a half-sister to two-time winner Roy’s Gul Gul Ha, who fnished a five length third in her maiden juvenile plate debut in the January of her two-year-old season. MARMALADE CUTTER (4) will need to make dramatic improvement to feature. (David Thiselton 2-1-5-3-7-8-6-4)

Race 2
Preview: TREE TUMBO (1) is well regarded and this Summer Cup third-placed Silvano gelding looks to be coming into his own and is distance suited. NARTJE (3) looks like a fair sort who can still improve and he is distance suited. BALLET SHOES (6) is officially the best weighted horse but was beaten three lengths by Tree Tumbo on these same terms when they last met over 2000m although she will likely prefer this 1800m trip. (David Thiselton 1-3-6)
Race 3
Gold Circle Horse Racing And Gambling
Preview: MAUBY (3) ran well in first time blinkers last time and looks to still have some scope for improvement. ARYAAM (1) has run three fair races from 1200m to 1400m and being by Dynasty out of an Asiatic Boy mare who won five races from 1600m to 2000m should relish the step up in trip and she is well drawn. ELECTRIC BOOTS (2) finished just 0,75 lengths behind Aryaam when they met over 1400m and the form of her best run, which was over 1700m, has been franked although her subsequent efforts over 1600m were a touch disappointing. (David Thiselton 1-3-2)
Race 4
Preview: BELLE OF BELIZE (7) made a promising debut over 1450m before disappointing as hot favourite over 1400m next time out but she was caught wide that day and being a scopey daughter of Ideal World out of a Fastnet Rock mare who won over 1600m she can bounce back. ROSAPRIMA (1) ran on well late over 1400m in her penultimate start and should relish this step up in trip on pedigree so she can do better than her first attempt at it last time which yielded a disappointing five length fourth. LYRICAL DANCE (2) ran a fair race when stepped yp to 1700m last time and can still improve. SHOOROOQ (11) is by Silvano out of a Listed third-placed Jet Master mare but the first foal of this mare is a full-sister to Shoorooq and is a battling maiden in Port Elizabeth. PEACABLE (10) was green on debut has some scope for improvement. (David Thiselton 7-1-2-11-10)
Race 5
Preview: SOPHIA’S FIRST (9) ran a fair second last time and might enjoy this trip being by Noble Tune although he mother by Doowaley was a sprinter . MASAAKEN (8) was ridden too handy last time over 1800m having stayed on well from off the pace in her previous two races over 1600 and 2000m and having struck as one who would enjoy staying races. ATTENTIVE (1) comes off a good second over this trip in soft going and he beat Ball Rolling by two lengths in that race. BALL ROLLING (2) has been knocking at the door and beat Attentive by five lengths the second time they met over this trip but has lost to him on two other occasions over 2000m and over this 2400m trip respectively. WISHIONAIRE (10) was beaten 3,5 lengths and 1,5 lengths respectively by Attentive and Ball Rolling over this trip in the soft last time. (David Thiselton 9-8-1-2-10)

Preview: RIO’S WINTER (1) is classy and will enjoy the step up from 1200m in her to comeback runs which yielded a win and a third. QUERARI FERRARI (3) ran a fair second over this trip last time and can be involved again. CHRISTMAS FLOWER (2) disappointed over 1200m last time but had a tough draw and she has some class so can bounce back over this probably more suitable trip. (David Thiselton 1-3-2)
Race 7
Gold Circle Horse Racing And Gambling Rules
Preview: BOLD JAZZ (4) should enjoy coming back down to this trip having run a meritorious fourth in the Listed Secretariat Stakes over this trip in his penultimate start. FIRE AND ICE (1) is physically unimposing but has a lot of ability and a big heart and is distance suited. MILL QUEEN (3) has been disappointing this season but if bouncing back to her best she will go close. (David Thiselton 4-1-3)
Race 8
Preview: GOLDEN BELLE (1) is a talented sprinter although a touch enigmatic so if it is a going day she is the one to beat being the joint best weighted runner. SARAH (2) went close to the up and coming Bold Ransom last time despite giving him weight (if apprentice claims are ignored) and she is the joint best weighted although she did make a breathing noise last time which is a concern. RISK TAKER (6) has a fine turn of foot and enjoyed the step down to 1200m last time. BEFORE THE DAWN (4) has some good 1000m form and was running on last time so might enjoy this trip. DOUBLE “O” EIGHT (5) had a tough draw last time and it did not pan out but she has a shout if bouncing back. POOL PARTY (3) is the joint best in at the weights with Golden Belle and Sarah and can’t be ignored having showed signs of a form return last time. (David Thiselton 1-2-6-4-5-3)

After atumultuous week of outspoken challenges against the Special Resolutions broughtby the Gold Circle Board before their Members, the 4 motions failed narrowly toreceive the 75% required, achieving support of between 70-72% for each vote.
Business rescue was a loomingthreat for the Operator and would have been the likely course of action had itnot been for the generosity of Hollywoodbets to offer an unsecured loan of R40mto Gold Circle. “It would have been a tragedy for all the stakeholders ifracing had to stop when the company went into business rescue, said MichelNairac, CEO of Gold Circle. He continued “I am relieved that thestakeholders who depend on racing can continue to benefit from it. Ï amgrateful to Hollywoodbets that racing will continueuninterrupted until the next Special General Meeting can beconvened”.

“So much good work has been doneto get horses back on the track. In short, it would have been a disaster ifracing had once again been interrupted for an extended period. The KZNWinter/Champions Season is the flagship of the national racing calendar. For itto not be completed would be the unnecessary raising of the white flag.

“Hollywoodbets is averseto ‘racing politics’. We are not picking a side and we have no desire tobe caught in the middle. We have one agenda – that is to apply our resources –financial and human, to supporting Gold Circle in its quest to return toprofitability. The natural consequence of that objective, if successful, willbe a stronger and sustainable future for KZN Racing. The events of the pastweek could well have resulted in unintended or unanticipated consequences. We are pleased that such consequences have been averted.”
